Marchand, Pastrnak, and DeBrusk Lead Scoring Effort
Ullmark Shines with 38 Saves
The Boston Bruins have taken an early lead in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, defeating the Florida Panthers 4-1 in Game 1 on Monday night. David Pastrnak, Brad Marchand, and Jake DeBrusk all found the back of the net, while Linus Ullmark came up big with 38 saves.
Brandon Carlo also scored a goal for the Bruins, who came into the game fresh off a 2-1 overtime victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 7 of their first-round series. The Panthers, meanwhile, were coming off a 4-0 sweep of the Washington Capitals.
The Bruins took an early lead when Pastrnak scored just 1:27 into the game. Marchand made it 2-0 with a power-play goal later in the first period, and DeBrusk extended the lead to 3-0 with a goal early in the second period.
The Panthers finally got on the board when Carter Verhaeghe scored a power-play goal with just over eight minutes remaining in the second period. But the Bruins regained their three-goal lead when Carlo scored with less than two minutes remaining in the period.
Ullmark made a number of big saves in the third period to preserve the victory. The Bruins now have a 1-0 lead in the series, with Game 2 set for Wednesday night in Boston.
