Malaysian Rescuers Race to Save Woman Swallowed by Sinkhole
Heavy Debris Hinders Rescue Efforts
Police in Malaysia are investigating the disappearance of an Indian woman who vanished after the pavement beneath her collapsed, sending her plummeting into a sinkhole.
The incident occurred in Kuala Lumpur on Friday, August 23rd, at approximately 8:00 PM. The victim, identified as 48-year-old Vijayalaksmi, was walking along a busy road when the pavement suddenly gave way beneath her feet.
Witnesses reported hearing a loud crash and seeing a large section of the road collapse, creating a deep sinkhole. Vijayalaksmi was reportedly swallowed up by the sinkhole and has not been seen since.
Rescue Efforts Underway
Rescue workers and emergency responders have been dispatched to the scene and are working to locate and rescue Vijayalaksmi.
However, efforts have been hampered by heavy debris and a strong current within the sinkhole.
Woman's Fate Unknown
As of Saturday afternoon, Vijayalaksmi's fate remains unknown.
Authorities are continuing to search for her, but it is unclear if she survived the fall.
Cause of Collapse Under Investigation
The cause of the pavement collapse is still under investigation.
However, preliminary reports indicate that the road may have been weakened by heavy rainfall and flooding in the area.
