Young Latvian Goaltender Makes History
Silovs Leads Latvia to First-Ever IIHF Medal
Arturs Silovs has been riding a high this summer after making history at the IIHF World Championship. After a dominant tournament that helped to lead host country Latvia to their first-ever IIHF medal, Silovs has become a national hero.
The 21-year-old goaltender was a key part of Latvia's success, posting a 1.50 goals-against average and a .942 save percentage in seven games. He also recorded two shutouts, including one in the bronze medal game against the United States.
Silovs' performance has not gone unnoticed by NHL teams. He was recently signed to a three-year entry-level contract by the Vancouver Canucks. Silovs is expected to compete for a spot on the Canucks' roster in the upcoming season.
